A number of America’s most famous beers are losing their fizz.

Millions of people are turning away from several of the biggest brands in the beverage world at an astonishing rate.

And, in an indication that drinkers are becoming more weight-conscious, most of the beers missing out are full-calorie options.

Out with the full, in with the light: Budweiser, which has 145 calories per can, is losing huge sales, while Bud Light, at 110 calories, is holding steady

Those in need of quenching refreshment are instead turning to lower-calorie products. Imports and craft beers have also taken advantage.

A study carried out by 24/7 Wall St., which looked at beer sales nationwide between 2005 and 2010, produced some remarkable results.

Chief among them was that Budweiser, the best-selling beer in America for years, has lost 30 per cent of its sales over the five-year period.

Given that the lager, which has 145 calories in each can, sold 18million barrels last year, the loss was huge – more than 7million barrels fewer.
